What is platelet rich plasma therapy?

Platelet rich plasma therapy, also known as PRP therapy or plasma rich platelet therapy, is a safe, natural, and effective alternative treatment to cortisone injections and can often eliminate the need for surgery. PRP therapy uses your body’s own platelets (extracted from your blood) to enhance your body’s own healing process for injuries to bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

How does platelet rich plasma therapy work?

In PRP, your blood is drawn and then spun down to separate the plasma and platelets from the other constituents. The platelets contain natural growth and healing factors, and when re-injected into the injured area they attract other natural healing agents like stem cells. The procedure takes from one to two hours, and there is no surgery, anesthesia, or hospital stay required.
