Why test estrogens?
Estrogens are steroid hormones that stimulate the development of female characteristics (e.g., breasts, female body shape, etc.). They play important physiological roles in men as well. High levels of estrogens can have deleterious effects for both sexes.
What are the symptoms of excess estrogens?
In men:
- Excess body fat and/or low muscle mass
- Low libido
- Fatigue
- Gynecomastia (“man boobs”)
- Increased risk for prostate cancer
In women:
- Increased risk for breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer
- Osteoporosis
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Irregular menstruation
- Hot flashes
- Fatigue
- Insomnia

- Estrone (E1)
- Estradiol (E2)
- Estriol (E3)
